Ted Russet. Can We Be Friends

With his other songs like Crazy Perfect and Gold Dust being received well on Spotify, I can see only good things for the release of Ted’s new song Can We Be Friends. Especially after seeing the promo screenshots for this single, showing hilarious and heart-breaking responses to the question ‘Can we be friends?’ (check out his Facebook page) and after viewing the video for Gold Dust. I’m excited to see what else comes out of the creative brain that came up with this stuff.

‘Can we be friends in real life? Not just online,

I can’t face the real world outside

If you’re not there’

A relevant message in this day and age, living in a generation that relies so heavily on social media for opinions and confirmation of pretty much anything in our lives. As amazing as it is, I agree that social media is not always on our side! Behind these scarily poignant lyrics lies a true indie dance tune and a clean production of a top-notch performance from the rest of the band. He doesn’t try to hide his accent and the pure Englishness of his voice, and not just in this song. Case in point, in Crazy Perfect there’s a reference to cheesy chips. It’s no Hugh Grant, but hey, modern day millennial England is questionable. These Frank Turner-esque vocals carry the tune of Can We Be Friends which gets catchier and catchier with each listen, and I’m constantly finding it popping into my head.

It’s been awesome to follow Ted through his musical career on social media (I know - this is what it’s good for!), from small town gigs in Shropshire to Liverpool city life, selling out his single launch just last week. Big things ahead - keep an eye out for this one and check out Can We Be Friends on Spotify and YouTube.
