As per usual, The Sesh at The Polar Bear, has got new live music down to a T. If I want to find my next new band obsession, that’s where I’ll be on a Tuesday night.
Walking back in to the main room, floor slightly sticky with purple cider and cheap lager, everyone is standing, waiting for the next band. The second-to-last act, female-fronted, fresh-faced three piece from Liverpool, The Mysterines bring a grungy set to set the night off. With a lead singer and a voice that sounds like she’s been smoking for double her lifetime (in the good way), heavy drums and distorted guitar, they sound like the perfect angry garage-rock band. Electric blue lights warp the faces of all three members, but with a band like this, people are here for the sound. The harsh amps in the small venue only electrify everyone in the room. Jumping, dancing, head banging - the crowd seem miles more excited than they have for the other, more sedate, singer-songwriter on previously. They close with their angry dancy tune ‘I just love to hate you’ before the audience once again snap out of their head-banging mindset, grab another disgustingly coloured drink and go back to loitering around waiting for the next band to be just as exciting.
