Alternative Christmas Playlist

We’re now at that time of year, but long before Halloween, Christmas decorations have been haunting our supermarkets sparking snippets of ‘All I want for Christmas’ and ‘Jingle Bells’. Formulating in our minds and executed in the form of some untuneful murmur emulating from our cynical mouths, Christmas songs are inescapable.

As we launch in to the Winter season, preparations become more serious and the decorations are accompanied by actual Christmas music rather than the hopeless hum of shoppers wishing they weren’t thinking about Christmas in April. We’ve had the first snowfall, and bonfire night and now there’s nothing left to think of other than the theintoman in the big red suit.

Now, I’m not opposed to Christmas and I enjoy the odd Christmas songs. However, the same five on repeat, when we start as early as the beginning of November, can get a little bit grating. This originally was going to be a ‘Scrooge’s playlist’ for all the holiday haters, but it turns out a lot of the songs we hear on repeat are actually not about enjoying Christmas at all. This, instead, is an alternative Christmas playlist for everyone, including me, who is a tiny bit bored of the same old same old.

Find the playlist with songs from The Kinks, Badly Drawn Boy, Laura Marling and Sufjan Stevens here:

And for all you real scrooges:

NOFX: Xmas has been X'ed
